RESET® Certification
PGI ENGINEERING was the first consultancy to offer RESET® certification in Spain, having certified the first office building in Barcelona in 2020.
The RESET® (Regenerative, Ecological, Social & Economical Targets) Air Standard v2.0 Certification aims to ensure healthy environments for building users, starting with people and air quality.
It is increasingly common to find buildings in which water consumption and, above all, energy consumption are monitored, establishing consumption patterns and searching for optimization measures after studying the building's consumption. As William Thomson Kelvin rightly said, "what is not measured, cannot be improved."
However, air quality monitoring is currently a poorly implemented topic. Simple compliance with outdoor air particulate filtration regulations appears to be enough to assure users that the air they breathe inside buildings is suitable for their health. But the data does not indicate the same thing:
- 4.8 million deaths annually in the world due to exposure to the polluted air outside.
- 3.8 million deaths annually in the world due to exposure to polluted air inside buildings by smoke and poor combustion of equipment.
- 91% of the world's population lives in places where air quality exceeds the levels recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO)
Data from the World Health Organization (WHO) indicate that air pollution kills a total of approximately 7 million people each year in the world. WHO data also shows that 9 out of 10 people breathe polluted air. The main diseases due to the poor quality of the air we breathe are cancer and other conditions in the lungs, and brain and/or cardiovascular diseases.
In the current context, since the emergence of the COVID 19 virus, the care over the air we breathe has reached unexpected levels of transcendence. With the RESET® certification, PGI ENGINEERING comes to ensure that what you breathe is clean and safe outdoor air for those who breathe it.
PGI ENGINEERING was the first consultancy to offer RESET® certification in Spain, having certified the first office building in Barcelona in 2020.
As a consultant with extensive experience in the sector, PGI Engineering offers all the different phases of the project to obtain the certification: management and preparation of documentation for certification, visit the building to be treated, study and calculation of the number of sensors to be used and their location, and installation and procedure for obtaining the final certification.
What is RESET®
It is a set of standards and tools for continuous assessment of air quality inside buildings that allows establishing long-term strategies focused on the health of people and the built environment. The use of specific sensors controls and measures certain air parameters that protect the health of the people who occupy them.
Benefits of RESET®
RESET® Air's requirements for continuous monitoring serve to determine whether a space is healthy or not, and can also help a project optimize solutions to ensure it is healthy. By focusing on monitoring rather than specific solutions, this approach maximizes innovation and adaptation, while reducing overall project costs. In addition, it offers greater security to the occupants of the buildings by being able to see the air quality data at all times.
The main benefits are:
- Monitoring and control of key air quality parameters that can affect the health of a building's occupants, ensuring that levels are healthy at all times.
- Reduces absenteeism levels and increases productivity.
- Facilitates the implementation of corrective measures as it provides information detailed by zones and ventilation systems.
- Transmits tranquility and security to the people of the building during the return to normality within the current framework.
- Provides added value to the building: it can have an economic impact on the rental of the properties since it guarantees additional security.
- The return on investment is recovered in the short term (in most cases).
How does it work?
The system collects information by using sensors that monitor five key air quality parameters. This information is transferred to the "cloud" and verified that it complies with the established requirements.
In addition, RESET® contributes to combating SARS-CoV-2 through the information provided by four of the five parameters that are analyzed: microparticles (aerosols) present in the air, ambient temperature, CO2 concentration, and relative humidity.
Officially, the RESET® Air certification is obtained when the data analyzed during an uninterrupted period of three months satisfactorily meets the established parameters.
